Ravi Jaipuria is founder and chairman of RJ Corp,

Ravi Jaipuria was born in 1953 into a family of Marwari merchants.

He is the youngest of three brothers. His father, Chunilal Jaipuria, and his uncle, Mr. Jaipuria, were involved in the textile trade (as distributors of Raymond’s, a popular Indian brand) and in banking. His father co-founded Bank of Rajasthan, which he later sold. Chunilal Jaipuria obtained Coca Cola bottling franchise in the 1960s following a chance meeting with a Coca-Cola executive in Atlanta.
In the meantime, Ravi left to study in the United States and obtained a degree in business management in New York. He settled in Montreal, where he set up a textile and real estate business. The death of his wife in a plane crash in 1985 prompted him to return permanently to India, where he remarried.

In 1987, his father Chunilal divided company between his three sons. Ravi got the bottling plant, foundation of his empire.

This was the start of Varun Beverages Ltd, which produces, bottles and distributes carbonated and non-carbonated beverages (Seven-up, Lipton, Tropicana or Lay’s and Doritos) in India, as well as in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Morocco, Mozambique and Zambia. Today, the company is PepsiCo’s largest bottler in India and one of its biggest franchisees outside the USA. Over the years, franchise agreement has grown to cover 27 states and 7 union territories in India.
Ravi Jaipuria led the company to IPO in 2016. A few years earlier, he consolidated his dominant position by acquiring his elder brother’s bottling business in the capital Delhi.
In 1997, the entrepreneur diversified by launching Devyani International Ltd, another fast-food franchisee. This company operates the Yum! Brands, KFC, Pizza Hut, TWG Tea and Costa Coffee. Devyani has been listed on Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange since 2021.
Ravi Jaipuria also founded RJ Corp in 1992, a diversified conglomerate with interests in beverages, fast food, healthcare, education and hotels. Holding company owns 27.4% of Varun Beverages and 59.3% of Devyani International Ltd.

Through his company, Ravi Jaipuria carries out a number of philanthropic initiatives.

In particular, he setted up an academy for cricket, India’s national sport to detect and train new talents. He also launched several educational projects, including Pushpvatika kindergarten, which promotes an experimental methodology, as well as retirement homes and orphanages.
Jaipuria also holds minority shares in Medanta healthcare company and Lemon Tree hotel chain.
Ravi Jaipuria is the only Indian bottler to have received PepsiCo «International Bottler of the Year» award in 1997. This award was presented on the occasion of PepsiCo’s centenary by Donald M. Kendall, founder of PepsiCo Inc., in the presence of George Bush, 41st President of the United States.
Ravi Jaipuria is father of two children. He is now remarried and lives in New Delhi. His son is Executive Vice-President and full-time director of Varun Beverages. Varun has also acquired Nike franchise abroad, which now has 11 stores. His daughter, Ruchira Jaipuria, works for Devyani.
